ORC Site Information

The philosophy of Ayn Rand, a twentieth-century novelist and philosopher, is known as Objectivism. The Objectivism Reference Center is a collection of materials and links related to Ayn Rand and her philosophy of Objectivism. In addition to the information presented below, the Site FAQ answers a number of common questions about the site, and the Site Trivia page will tell you things no one ever asks about.

Site Maintainer

This site was created and is maintained by Richard Lawrence. The ORC is not affiliated with any other organization, nor is it sponsored or financially supported by any other organization. Richard Lawrence is an independent scholar and is not employed, supported or funded by any person or group associated with Objectivism, Ayn Rand, or the Estate of Ayn Rand. Unless some other source or author is credited, it should be assumed that Richard Lawrence is the author (and copyright holder) of all written materials found on this site.

If you are concerned about the reliability or credibility of material presented on this site, you might want to review some tips on evaluating information from the internet. Most of the information on the site can be easily checked through libraries and other sources. For more complex documents, such as the Ayn Rand Biographical FAQ, detailed source citations are provided.

Site Policies

External Links

A growing number of reference materials are maintained on this site. Suggestions for additional materials are welcomed, but this site will never be the sole source for "everything Objectivist." Because much useful material already exists on the net, external links are an important part of this site. See the Site FAQ for more information on how external links are selected.

Endorsement, Sanction, Etc.

Linking to external sites raises the question of whether I am endorsing those sites or approving of the people or groups who maintain them. The purpose of the ORC is to help people find information about Ayn Rand and Objectivism. That information may be maintained by an individual or group that does disreputable things, holds false views, etc. In no case should a link be construed as ORC approval of those individuals or organizations, nor should it be assumed that they approve of or endorse the ORC, its maintainer, or any of the other linked sites. Similarly, links to specific essays or articles do not mean that I agree with everything in them, or even that I have read them in their entirety. A link simply means that the site or page contains relevant material, and that is all it means.

Accuracy and Maintenance

How many times have you visited a site that promised links to Objectivism-related pages, only to find the same broken links and outdated information that you already found somewhere else? ORC links are checked periodically and updated as needed. That does not mean there will never be a broken link here, but the ORC will not be linking to sites that were taken down two years ago (as some sites still do, unfortunately).

The ORC cannot vouch for the absolute accuracy of materials presented in the external linked pages.

Corrections/notifications of errors or broken links are greatly welcomed! See the bottom of the page for contact information.

Technical Stuff

Hosting

* This site is hosted by Addr.com.

Tools

The (X)HTML coding for this site was accomplished using Arachnophilia, versions 3.9-5.3 *.

The search and site map capabilities are provided by the FreeFind Search Engine.

Design

This site is designed primarily to provide information. Therefore, the focus of the design is on making the site accessible and easy to use. Features that would make the site less usable to some, such as frames, large graphics, and non-standard HTML tags, are generally avoided.

The ORC logo design was provided by Jason King.

This site is designed in XHTML 1.0, with attention paid to compatability with older browsers, text-only browsers, etc. Pages have been checked using the following:

Any errors or poor design elements that remain are the responsibility of the maintainer, not the providers of these tools.
