Essays by Anthony Mason

Much of the material in the following essays was originally written as posts to the newsgroup humanities.philosophy.objectivism or the Atlantis mailing list. The essays themselves, however, have been revised and/or expanded from their original form. They may continue to be revised over time.

I am currently in the process of relocating most of these essays to the Objectivism Reference Center. Some of the links below will take you there.

  • Meet the Undefended Assertions
I take issue with Greg Swann's overblown claims about what he achieved in his essay, "Meet the Third Thing."
  • A Reply to Huemer on Ethics
My response to some of Michael Huemer's criticisms of Objectivism in his essay, "Why I Am Not an Objectivist."
  • Ayn Rand on Gun Control: An Investigation
I search for comments by Rand on the subject of gun control, and don't find much at all.
  • Objectivism: The Cult Comparison
The common practice of Objectivism compared to various definitions of "cult," in an effort to objectively answer whether Objectivism is a cult or not.
  • Time, Causes and Infinity: A Rebuttal of "An Inconsistent Triad"
My response to an essay critical of supposed Objectivist beliefs in metaphysics.
  • Did Rand Misrepresent Emerson?
An analysis of whether Rand correctly interpreted a famous quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson.
